Side-by-Side Testing
Side-by-side testing means Custy is installed and set up while your old flow still works. You verify Custy on a controlled path first.
Why test side by side
A live store should not learn about a broken Customize button from customers. Testing first catches missing print areas, wrong prices, and theme issues early.
Safe ways to test
Pick one of these approaches:
- 1Duplicate theme: embed Custy on a copy and use Shopify theme preview
- 2Hidden product: set up one product that is not in menus and open its URL yourself
- 3Password page: test while the storefront is password protected if that fits your launch
- 4Staff only: use a development store or staff account before production traffic
What to check on every pilot product
Open the product as a shopper would and walk through the full path.
- The Customize It button appears on the product page
- The Design Lab opens and shows the correct product sides
- You can add text and an image inside the print area
- Price updates look right when you change options
- Add to cart works and the line item looks correct in cart
- Checkout completes on a test order when you are ready to verify files
- The order shows print-ready artwork for fulfillment
Compare against the old app
For each pilot product, compare Custy to what shoppers get today. Sides, sizes, colors, and fees should match your business rules—or be intentionally improved and documented.
When testing is done
If every pilot check passes, move to the Pre-Switch Checklist. If something fails, fix it in Custy or see Troubleshooting before you switch.
